Hero vs. Pillboxes, Hear from an Expert
The cheapest option for managing medication is the common pillbox, but for many people it's far from the best when your goal is to stay 100% adherent with your medication adherence.
Here are a few reasons why a membership to Hero provides a better solution that the common pillbox:
Dexterity
Filling up small and fiddly compartments with several doses of several medications can be very time consuming, frustrating, and repetitive, especially when the pills are also small. For those suffering from arthritis or other joint problems, it can also be quite painful.
Reminders
Plastic pillboxes are a low-cost option, but they come with no additional features that will help you remain compliant. 125,000 preventable deaths occur every year in the US due to pill mismanagement, and much of that is related to people simply forgetting to take their pills at the right time or at all.
While pillboxes are certainly practical, they don’t provide the critical reminders necessary to ensure that users remember to actually open their pillboxes and take their pills at the right time.
Connectivity
Pillboxes are a low-tech solution to taking medications and can’t take advantage of technological advances and the internet. Solutions like Hero are connected 24/7 so they can monitor whether you or a loved one is taking their pills and alert you if a dose gets missed.
Transcript: There are a number of reasons why the Hero is more beneficial, or at least potentially so then a pill box. So pill box is the plastic pill box, very inexpensive, buy them at any pharmacy. A couple of problems, one is that they're actually not all that easy to fill. You have three or four or five different medicines. Getting them all in the right boxes, opening them, closing them actually requires a fair amount of dexterity. And for someone who has arthritis or some other physical problem, that can be quite difficult.
Second thing is, there's no built in reminder system. You still have to remember to open the pill box and take the right ones at the right time. Hero has reminders. And then of course, the idea that that that Hero, by software, links you up to people who are trying to help you take your medicines and allows them to support you at even at a distance, is tremendously helpful.
So pill boxes are good things, but Hero provides three or four additional benefits that really are worth considering for many people.
