Welcome to Hero!
Welcome to Hero, the first end-to-end solution for every step of your family’s medication management journey.
Medication management. That might not be something you think about in your day-to-day life. I know I didn’t, until about five years ago. Things were going well for me: I was growing Brainchild - my personal holding company. I had seeded some great companies like Warby Parker, Sweetgreen and ClassPass, and I was enjoying my early thirties in New York City. Then my mom got sick—Code Red sick—and things changed pretty dramatically.
The good news: She’s made a full recovery and is living an active, healthy life, but there were bumps along the way for my family. Specifically, the daily challenge of staying on top of the 15 or 16 pills mom was taking regularly. We were surprised—she’s a primary care physician, after all, so if anyone should be able to master the meds, it’s Mom. But proper management, as we learned, is a complicated process - one that comes with added physical, logistical, and emotional challenges. It’s apparently not in humans’ nature to take medication correctly.
For me, the worst part was the stress. When you’re focusing on the chore of sorting, dispensing, refilling, scheduling, and arguing over missed doses, no one is left with much time to do...well, anything. That’s when I realized we needed help and that we weren’t the only ones.
Hero helped my mom gain a renewed sense of independence and feel like she was back in charge of her health. And it helped our family retrain our focus on the quality time we spent together, not the friction of non-stop medication management. Now, instead of fighting over who botched up the doses in mom’s weekly pillbox, we are back to fighting over who gets to eat the leftovers from one of Mom’s amazing home cooked meals.
The primary goal of Hero isn’t to replace the caregiver, but to streamline the process, so that loved ones can spend more time enjoying life and each other’s company. My family has more enjoyable things to do together than sorting tablets and nagging Mom to take hers meds. Yours does, too. That’s why I’m so excited to share Hero with you today—a system I believe in because my loved ones have experienced the results firsthand.
Hero provides secure, automatic dispensing, dynamic reminders, text and email notifications, objective data logging, refill services, and a closed-loop between the physician, patient, pharmacist, and caregiver. As far as functionality and features go, we know you’ll be pleased. But more than anything else, Hero is meant to give you your Sundays back—knowing that your loved one is safe and healthy, so you’re both free to keep trying to live every moment to the fullest. That’s the difference between health and well-being.
Sincerely, Kal
